iPhone 1st Generation

The first iPhone was released on June 29 2007. Steve Jobs (CEO of Apple) created a multi-touch touchscreen to interact with a computer in a way in which he could type directly onto the display. Jobs hired a group of Apple employees to research the project. After the first prototype was made Jobs decided to apply the technology to a mobile phone. Jobs described the phone as a touchscreen iPod that reinvented the 'phone'. Apple collaborated with AT&T to create the device, the development cost rose to around $150 million.

When Jobs first released the phone he said this in his address "This is a day, that I have been looking forward to for two and a half years", and that "today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone."
